Wild Duck Creek Fortified Duck

Made in tiny quantities purely for the enjoyment of fortified wine, Wild Duck Creek’s Fortified Duck is a wonderfully indulgent expression of 100% Shiraz. The fruit is destemmed and fermented in small open fermenters until the desired level of natural sweetness is reached, before being fortified with 24-year-old brandy. The fortification halts fermentation, preserving the wine’s natural sugars and locking in its rich fruit character. The wine remains on skins for a further five days to build texture and intensity before being pressed into old oak barriques, where it matures for around 12 months.

Deep and intensely coloured, it opens with an enticing bouquet of blueberries, blueberry ice cream, spice, anise and violets, with a distinctive old-world charm. The palate is rich, silky and beautifully layered, combining luscious blue and red fruits with dark chocolate and liquorice. Generous sweetness wraps around the palate, while soft yet abundant tannins provide structure and a wonderfully mouth-watering finish. Decadent, complex and seriously enjoyable, this is a fortified Shiraz that can be enjoyed now or cellared for decades.
