Wild Duck Creek Ducks & Drakes Cabernets

A bold yet composed interpretation of Cabernet Sauvignon and its blending partners, Wild Duck Creek’s Ducks & Drakes is a testament to the richness and structure possible in Heathcote reds. Sourced from estate and grower vineyards rooted in ancient Cambrian soils, the fruit is meticulously hand-picked at optimal ripeness to capture both power and natural balance.

Each parcel is fermented separately in open fermenters, with hand-plunging and gentle pump-overs to extract fine tannins and vibrant fruit. The wine is then pressed to a mix of French and American oak barriques (approximately 30–40% new) for malolactic fermentation and extended maturation — typically 18–24 months — to allow the components to harmonise and evolve.

The result is a full-bodied, dark-fruited Cabernet blend layered with blackberry, cassis, graphite and cocoa, framed by firm yet polished tannins and well-integrated oak. The finish is long and savoury, promising excellent cellaring potential while offering plenty of richness in its youth.
