Utzinger Black Label Chardonnay

Utzinger Black Label Chardonnay is a powerful yet refined estate-grown Chardonnay that highlights the depth and complexity achievable from the cool-climate vineyards of the Tamar Valley.

Predominantly sourced from Gin-Gin and Clone 76 plantings, the fruit was hand-picked, whole-bunch pressed and naturally fermented in new French oak puncheons. Full malolactic fermentation and nine months on full lees have built impressive texture and richness, while preserving the wine’s underlying freshness and precision.

Bright yellow with a golden hue, the bouquet is complex and layered, opening with subtle reductive notes before revealing roasted hazelnut, flinty minerality, oyster shell and sea spray. Further aeration brings smoky savoury nuances alongside ripe stone fruit and citrus complexity.

The palate is medium to full-bodied, combining concentration with poise. Rich textures are balanced by vibrant acidity, while flavours of white peach, nectarine and pithy citrus are framed by finely integrated oak and a distinct mineral backbone.

Long, structured and intensely expressive, the finish lingers with notes of citrus peel, roasted nuts and savoury maritime characters. A sophisticated and age-worthy Chardonnay that beautifully marries power, texture and cool-climate elegance.
