Southern Light Vineyards Lightfall Chardonnay is a refined single-vineyard Chardonnay that beautifully balances richness, precision and minerality, showcasing the distinctive character of the Yarra Valley.
Sourced from 41-year-old vines on a west-facing site, the fruit enjoys ample sunshine while deep-rooted vines maintain freshness and natural balance. Hand-picked over two separate harvests, each parcel is vinified individually before the final blend is assembled.
Whole-bunch pressed into 300L and 500L French oak barrels, with 25% new oak, the wine undergoes wild fermentation before resting on full lees for 12 months. The decision to block malolactic fermentation preserves its vibrant acidity and crystalline purity.
The bouquet is finely detailed, offering aromas of grapefruit, white peach and lemongrass layered with almond meal and wet stone minerality. The palate is focused and elegant, with preserved lemon, white stone fruit and a subtle nutty phenolic texture carried by a distinctive stony mouthfeel.
Long, linear and beautifully balanced, bright natural acidity drives the wine through a persistent, mineral finish. A sophisticated cool-climate Chardonnay with exceptional purity, finesse and excellent cellaring potential.
"THERE IS GOOD INTENSITY HERE WHICH CONTINUES FOR THE FULL LENGTH. A FLICK OF SPICY OAK IS EVIDENT ALONG WITH JUICY ACIDITY."
