Pressing Matters' Rieslings are inspired by the classic Mosel style but showcase the unique brilliance that Tasmanian Rieslings can achieve.
The vineyard features carefully selected clones—D2V3, 198GM, F8V13, and 239GM—planted on their own roots at a high density of 5,000 vines per hectare.
Their Rieslings are crafted with four distinct levels of residual sugar, beautifully reflected in the labels:
- R0 (very dry)
- R9 (dry)
- R69 (medium sweet)
- R139 (sweet)
This thoughtful range captures the essence of each sweetness level, offering something exceptional for every palate.
After selective picking, the fruit is gently bag pressed and cold settled for 48 hours. Following racking, the juice is inoculated with a neutral yeast and fermented at cool temperatures for around three weeks. The wine then spends 6–8 weeks on lees to build texture and complexity before being prepared for bottling.
Pressing Matters R0 Riesling shows a light straw colour with green hues, reflecting its youthful, crisp style. The nose is complex and expressive, with notes of preserved lime, dried rose petal and pear, alongside a subtle hint of Cox’s Orange apple.
The palate is clean and refreshing, driven by vibrant acidity and bright citrus fruit. Focused and precise, it finishes long and persistent, with flavours that linger gracefully on the palate.
"Tight, coiled and pristinely focused with pure lemon, crunchy green apple, grapefruit and lemon fruit notes and hints of crushed stone, fennel, flint, orange blossom, lemongrass and crisp pear. There are some light mountain herb tones on the palate, which shows superb tension and a minerally velocity that is quite something, finishing riverstone-dry and thirst-slakingly refreshing. Great stuff". 93/100 Pts, Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion
