Ochota Barrels The Green Room Grenache

Picked under a blood moon eclipse from a gorgeous organic, dry-grown Grenache vineyard planted in 1946 in the Onkaparinga Hills, Kaurna Country. Set among fig, olive and peach trees, the vines grow in red loamy clay with ironstone over deep limestone. Hand-picked across two picks just under two weeks apart, with two-thirds coming from the second pick, the fruit spent 12 days on skins with 60% whole bunch before four months in seasoned French oak. Unfined and unfiltered.

Lifted and strikingly fragrant, the bouquet weaves together plum compote, fragrant spice, white pepper, thyme and a savoury bouillon-like character. The palate is opulent yet nervy, with a medium-bodied, savoury feel that almost recalls Pinot Noir. Pomegranate and lingonberry bring bright, tangy fruit, while finely grained tannins and a wonderfully textural palate give the wine depth and shape. A distinctive and beautifully energetic expression of Grenache.
