About This Wine:

Henschke Henry's Seven Shiraz Grenache Mataro is a beautifully crafted Rhône-style blend that celebrates the pioneering spirit and rich cultural heritage of the Barossa. Named in honour of Henry Evans, who planted the first seven-acre vineyard at Keyneton in 1853, this wine pays tribute to the early settlers who introduced southern French and Spanish grape varieties to South Australia.

A blend of 76% Shiraz, 16% Grenache, 7% Mataro and 1% Viognier, Henry's Seven reflects the harmony of traditional Mediterranean varieties. The Viognier is co-fermented with Shiraz to enhance perfume and texture, while Grenache and Mataro are fermented separately before blending. The wine is matured for 10 months in French oak hogsheads, with 10% new oak and 90% seasoned barrels, allowing the vibrant fruit and regional character to shine.

Deep crimson with violet hues, the bouquet is wonderfully expressive, revealing aromas of blueberry, mulberry, raspberry and satsuma plum, layered with violet, lavender, mace, bay leaf and sage. The palate is rich yet elegant, combining bright red and blue fruits with savoury spice, clove, white pepper and cedar.

Fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity provide balance and structure, carrying the wine through to a long, polished finish. Generous, aromatic and beautifully balanced, Henry's Seven is a superb example of a modern Barossa blend that honours tradition while delivering exceptional drinkability.
