Greywacke Riesling

Sourced from the organically certified Ashmore Vineyard near the mouth of the Brancott Valley, this wine captures the vibrant energy and purity of its site. Planted on gravelly clay-loam soils more akin to the Southern Valleys than the Wairau Plains, the 27-year-old vines are meticulously managed, with low yields and hand-harvesting ensuring fruit of outstanding quality.

The grapes were whole-bunch pressed with a delicate, low-extraction cycle, and the juice was cold-settled before fermentation. Half was fermented in stainless steel with cultured yeast, while the remainder was fermented spontaneously in seasoned French oak barriques. Fermentation was stopped with 19 g/L of residual sugar, capturing a luscious off-dry balance. The wine was then rested on lees in old barrels for six months, adding subtle texture and depth.

Aromatically vivid, this wine opens with juicy nectarine, citrus blossom and coriander flower, underpinned by hints of beeswax and a delicate thread of anise. The palate is generous yet poised, with flavours of honeydew melon, Pink Lady apple and candied lemon, supported by fresh acidity and a gently succulent, off-dry finish. A beautifully layered and aromatic white with texture, vibrancy, and charm.
