About This Wine:

Planted in 2001, the Farr Rising Pinot Noir vineyard thrives on a diverse mix of rootstocks and three classic clones—MV6, 114, and 115. Set on an exposed, north-facing slope, the vineyard's terroir transitions from grey sandy loam with ironstone pebbles at the crest to rich black volcanic soil over limestone at the base.

The fruit is hand-harvested and carefully sorted in the vineyard before fermentation in open-top fermenters, with around 60–70% of the fruit destemmed. The wine is then transferred by gravity to French Allier oak barrels, of which 20–30% are new. Following secondary fermentation, it is racked by gas and matured for a further period before a final racking at around 18 months and bottling.

The wine opens with a soft, perfumed nose that gradually unfolds in the glass. The palate shows gentle fruit sweetness balanced by mineral notes and subtle toasty oak, leading to firm structure and a long, savoury finish. A refined and quietly powerful wine with the capacity to age gracefully for five to eight years in most vintages.
