Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier

Widely regarded as one of Australia’s benchmark Shiraz Viognier wines, Clonakilla’s flagship red continues to demonstrate the extraordinary affinity between these two Rhône varieties. Deep purple in colour, the wine opens with an intoxicatingly perfumed bouquet of black fruits, black cherry and cassis, layered with orange blossom, rose petals, raspberry, peppercorn, aniseed, leather and subtle mocha. The palate is beautifully balanced and intricately layered, with seductive texture, remarkable length and exceptionally silky tannins. Medium-bodied yet profound, it balances dark-fruited intensity with floral lift, spice and remarkable finesse. Delicious in its youth, it will develop further complexity over the next two decades, revealing savoury, meaty nuances and the haunting character of dried rose petals with age.
