Catena Zapata Nicasia Vineyard Malbec

From the far southern reaches of Altamira in La Consulta, Uco Valley, Nicasia Vineyard Malbec is rooted in exceptionally well-drained soils—shallow loam over a gravelly, dry riverbed subsoil. This site is the only planting of the special Catena Selection Malbec cuttings in this historic zone, long favoured by Nicolás Catena’s father, Domingo.

An extended cold maceration below 10ºC enhances aromatic expression before fermentation over 18–22 days, followed by a post-fermentation maceration of 23–29 days. The wine then undergoes élevage for 16–21 months in French oak barrels.

The result is a Malbec of remarkable depth and finesse. Aromas of ripe blackberry mingle with subtle white pepper, dark chocolate, and fine spices. The palate is juicy yet compact, with dusty, well-integrated tannins providing texture and structure. Poised between freshness and maturity, this wine offers immediate appeal as well as exceptional cellaring potential.
