2022 Henschke The Wheelwright Shiraz (Gift Box)

Henschke The Wheelwright Shiraz is an elegant and age-worthy single-vineyard Shiraz that honours Henschke founder Johann Christian Henschke, a skilled wheelwright and stonemason who established the family winery in 1868. First released to celebrate 150 years of Henschke winemaking, the wine is sourced from old vines planted in 1968 by fourth-generation Cyril Henschke at 470 metres above sea level in the cool-climate Eden Valley.

Produced from certified old-vine Shiraz under the Barossa Old Vine Charter, the wine is matured for 20 months in French oak hogsheads, with just 10% new oak, preserving the purity and finesse of the fruit while adding subtle complexity.

The bouquet is intensely aromatic, revealing raspberry, black cherry and boysenberry layered with nutmeg, aniseed, Dutch cocoa, sage, wild fennel and delicate charcuterie notes. The palate is poised and beautifully structured, offering vibrant mulberry, blueberry and black plum intertwined with white and pink peppercorn, floral lift and savoury spice.

Bright natural acidity and finely woven, silky tannins carry the wine through a long, graceful finish of exceptional balance and precision. A refined expression of Eden Valley Shiraz, The Wheelwright combines fragrance, elegance and depth with outstanding cellaring potential.
