About This Wine:

2011 Clos Saint Jean Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge Museum Release is a beautifully mature expression of classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape, showcasing the depth, complexity and longevity for which this celebrated appellation is renowned.

A blend led by 75% Grenache, supported by Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Vaccarèse and Muscardin, the wine is crafted from hand-harvested fruit sourced from low-yielding vineyards. Extended maceration in temperature-controlled concrete vats allows for gentle extraction of fine tannins and aromatic complexity, while maturation sees Grenache aged in concrete and the remaining varieties matured in oak barrels for nine months.

After more than a decade of bottle age, the wine displays remarkable harmony and evolution. Aromas of dark cherry, blackberry and plum have developed into layers of dried fruits, leather, tobacco, dried herbs and warm spice, complemented by hints of earth, game and Provençal garrigue.

The palate is full-bodied yet beautifully integrated, with silky tannins and savoury complexity woven through a core of mature red and dark fruits. Notes of spice, cedar, dried flowers and forest floor emerge across the long, persistent finish.

Now entering a superb drinking window, this museum-release Châteauneuf-du-Pape offers the elegance and tertiary complexity that only time can bring, while retaining the generosity and richness that define the great wines of the southern Rhône.
