Château Pavie 2006 is a commanding expression of one of Saint-Émilion's most celebrated estates, showcasing the concentration, power and remarkable longevity that define this Premier Grand Cru Classé. The cooler 2006 growing season, followed by an ideal Indian summer, produced wines of exceptional freshness, structure and ageing potential.
A blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the fruit comes from vines averaging 44 years of age. Hand-harvested and meticulously sorted, the grapes were fermented in temperature-controlled wooden vats before undergoing malolactic fermentation in barrel. The wine was then matured for 24 months in French oak, comprising 85% new and 15% one-year-old barrels, creating extraordinary depth while preserving the character of this exceptional terroir.
The bouquet is intensely expressive, opening with aromas of blackberry, black cherry and ripe plum, layered with roasted coffee, dark chocolate, cedar and smoky spice. As the wine evolves in the glass, notes of violet, liquorice, graphite and crushed stone add further complexity and refinement.
The palate is rich, full-bodied and immensely concentrated, yet beautifully balanced by vibrant acidity and finely sculpted tannins. Waves of dark fruit, cocoa, espresso and savoury spice unfold across the palate with remarkable volume and precision, while the estate's signature limestone terroir provides freshness, tension and definition.
Powerful yet impeccably composed, the finish is exceptionally long, lingering with dark fruits, mineral complexity and elegant oak spice. Now entering a magnificent stage of maturity, the 2006 Château Pavie is a profound Saint-Émilion that beautifully combines intensity, refinement and outstanding cellaring potential.
