Fermented in a combination of concrete, 5000L French oak and stainless steel open fermenters, with pneumatic plunging and pump overs once a day, with some whole bunches (10-15% in some ferments). Batches remained on skins for 12-14 days. Matured for 12 months prior to blending, in a combination of French oak puncheons, demi-muids and barriques.
Tranter Shiraz is our flagship wine, a tribute to a pioneering Australian, returned WWI soldier George Edwin Tranter who once owned our lands. First made in 2008, this medium to full-bodied shiraz showcases Heathcote’s trademark minerality, depth of flavor and intensity.
Matured in French oak for 18 months. Impenetrable inky black core with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Scents of ripe black cherries, liquorice and blackberries drift through the olfactory senses followed by smoky vanillin cedar, subtle fennel and blackpepper. Full, rich and powerful the mouth is saturated with luscious liquorice, blackberry and black cherry flavours which meld into vanillin oak, fennel and blackpepper characters. Structured rock like tannins take on a velvet like feel beneath the waves of opulent fruit. Long finish of liquorice, ripe blackberries, black cherries, smoky vanillin cedar, fennel and black pepper.
