About This Wine:

Gentle Folk Scary Gully Pinot Noir

Scary Gully Pinot Noir comes from one of the highest and oldest vineyards in the Adelaide Hills, perched on a ridge of sandstone and quartz. The steep, challenging site produces low yields, but this vintage was mild and dry, resulting in pristine fruit. This wine is beautifully balanced, fragrant, and pure, showcasing the elegance and finesse typical of the site. Made from MV6, D5V12, GM8, and Pommard clones, it underwent 20% whole cluster open-top fermentation for two to three weeks, followed by 10 months in French oak (20% new) before tank ageing and bottling. The result is a refined, aromatic Pinot Noir with structure, depth, and site-driven character.

Gentle Folk Monomeith Pinot Noir

Monomeith Pinot Noir hails from one of the Adelaide Hills’ most distinctive and coolest vineyard sites, perched high on the Ashton ridge. The vineyard’s east–west orientation ensures ideal sun exposure, contributing to a wine of depth, complexity, and classic regional character. Crafted from a mix of MV6, 777, 114, and 115 clones grown on light loamy clay over sandstone and quartz, it was fermented with 20% whole clusters before maturing for 10 months in French oak (20% new). The result is an elegant, aromatic Pinot Noir with layers of red fruit, spice, and fine structure—an exceptional expression of this elevated site.

Gentle Folk Little Creek Pinot Noir

Little Creek Pinot Noir comes from a secluded valley just beyond Monomeith, where higher vine density and rocky soils create a wine of greater depth and darker expression. This vintage, marked by low yields and ideal growing conditions, delivers a Pinot Noir that’s true to site—rich in fruit concentration with earthy undertones and exceptional purity. Grown on quartz-strewn siltstone and sandstone soils, the fruit was fully destemmed and fermented in open vats for two weeks before maturing in French oak (10% new) for 10 months. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, it captures the essence of Little Creek: distinctive, structured, and beautifully balanced.

Gentle Folk Scary Gully Chardonnay

Gentle Folk Scary Gully Chardonnay comes from one of the highest and most distinctive sites in the Adelaide Hills, perched on shallow, rocky soils in Forest Range. The vineyard’s quartz and siltstone mix imparts striking minerality and finesse. Aromas of lime, fennel seed, alpine herbs, and white peach lead into a taut, finely structured palate with exceptional length and drive. Whole bunch pressed and matured for 11 months in French and Austrian oak (20% new), this limited-release wine captures the pure, chiselled character of Scary Gully with remarkable precision and energy.

Gentle Folk Piccadilly Chardonnay

Piccadilly Chardonnay comes from the St James Vineyard, a new addition in 2024 located just below Mount Lofty in the heart of Piccadilly. This site, often dubbed the “Grand Cru” of the Adelaide Hills, produces wines of power, flair, and precision. Showing citrus, melon, and ripe stone fruit with a subtle touch of new oak, it’s vibrant yet beautifully balanced by firm acidity. Grown on light loamy clay over sandstone with schist and quartz fragments, the wine was whole-bunch pressed, settled overnight, and matured for 11 months in French oak (20% new) before bottling—delivering a complete, polished expression of the region.

Gentle Folk Basket Range Chardonnay

Gentle Folk Basket Range Chardonnay comes from a beautiful vineyard surrounded by native forest in the Adelaide Hills. Grown on light loamy clay over sandstone with schist and quartz fragments, this site’s northerly aspect gives the wine both texture and boldness. Whole bunches were pressed and settled overnight before racking to French and Austrian oak (20% new) for 11 months, followed by a short time in tank prior to bottling. Full malolactic fermentation adds roundness to its bright stone fruit core, while a fine line of acidity keeps the palate fresh and balanced.
