The Brown family has been in Padthaway for 40 years and established their first grape vines 32 years ago. The region has many larger, commercial wine companies like Fosters and Hardy’s and Orlando Wyndam. Small boutique privately owned wineries like Brown’s are few and far between. Made by the highly skilled and respected winemaking team of David O’Leary and Nick Walker, the wines are made in a generous approachable style.

In 1972 Bernard Portet and John Goelet established Taltarni Vineyards. David Hohnen was enlisted to establish the first 60 acres of vines then late moving on to establish Cape Mentell in Margaret River. The 1977 Cabernet Sauvignon was the winery's first commercial release and the wine won Gold at the Royal Melbourne Show. The 1979 Cabernet Sauvignon followed up with the Los Angeles Times awarding it "Best International Red Wine" beating many world renowned wines.

This 2006 vintage Taltarni Pyrenees Cabernet Sauvignon stands out as one of the best Taltarni has made.

This wine has depth, precision, structure, finesse, balance and length. Lush blackcurrant and blackberry, vanilla, cedar, dried herbs/leaf, crushed rock minerality, mouth puckering chalky tannin and very good length. Oak shows through a little strongly right now but this will be absorbed soon.
