Atze's Corner The Mob Montepulciano

This extravagant Montepulciano red wine has a dramatic backstory. In its first year, a group of sheep (affectionately named “The Mob”) squeezed through a hole in the vineyard fence. It was a tragedy for the vines, and it almost proved to be fatal for this tiny patch of the estate. The sheep ravished the entire plot! Luckily, all was not lost. Three years later, the first crop of grapes to be delivered from these tough young vines ripened, that the winery soon discovered that they were second to none. (That’s the beauty of growing on ironstone and red clay.) 

The colour is a deep purple, almost black. Dark cherries and blackberries abound in the Atze's Corner take. This primary flavour is backed up by a spine of fine, savoury tannins that are low in acidity but high in aromatics.
The wine's richness and juicy fruit are unmistakably Barossa, but there's more than a nod to Italy's food-friendly style in this savoury profile. The wine has spice and pepper notes, giving it a rustic touch when paired with food. It has a thick, syrupy texture with a full body.
