With fruit sourced from a single vineyard near Maslins Beach in McLaren Vale, the Zerella home block is carefully farmed and known for growing quality Nero D’Avola.
The fruit was handsorted, tipped into a single open top fermenter using a good dose of whole bunches on the bottom and destemm the remaining fruit on top. Sat on skins for a further 4 days to extract just the right amount of phenolics before pressing to tank and finally being gravity fed to old 225L barriques for MLF and maturation. 7 months in oak, bottled without fining, filtration, additions or unnecessary attention.
This release presents layers of red fruits, cherry cola and umami-like spice. This vintage has a touch more weight and juiciness than prior years. The palate is typically intense, with lovely ripe cranberry fruit, sour cherry tang, elegant tannin and saline minerals to finish.
