Noble Red Heathcote Petit Verdot

The Noble Red vineyard was established in 2002 in the Heathcote region on rich and ancient Cambrian soils. In addition to the _ acre of shiraz, planted in the 1970s, the Sobiesiak family planted 2 acres of shiraz soon after the purchase. Today, there is 15 acres under vine. The majority of the plantings are shiraz with small parcels of tempranillo, mourvedre and cabernet.

Originating from France, Petit Verdot is a late ripening variety that suits Australia’s dry, sunny climate perfectly. Although it has long been used as a blending component, it is increasingly being given the chance show its true colours as a varietal wine.

This vintage of Petit Verdot was warm enough to allow the variety to ripen, yet cool enough to maintain the intense yet delicate aromas of this beautiful variety. The beauty of this wine is in the perfumed lift of spice and violets overlaying the subtle tobacco characters on the palate. Oak maturation has imparted a little extra complexity and structure making the palate supple with fine lingering tannins.
