Purvis Wine Cellars is dedicated to showcasing new and different fine wines, providing education in styles, varieties and trends while in a fun and relaxed environment. We specialise in the best Fine Wine and Boutique Wine we can find across all price ranges.

Purvis Wine Cellars also has Australia's largest and most dynamic range of beers from all points on the globe. Try styles from Pilsner to Pale Ale, Witbier to Rauch Beer. Dark Ale to Imperial Stout and Hefeweizen to Saison.

'Try before you buy'. Unique to our store is our tasting bench which offers more than 20 different wines everyday to taste. They range in price range, variety and vintages and is an excellent way to experience something different and allows our staff to get a better idea of what you like.

Our web site is designed to be your 'store away from the store'. For those who have not visited our shop to experience a little of what Purvis Wine Cellars is about, this is a great place to start. Existing members will find the site replicates many of the great aspects that they enjoy when visiting our actual store.

Members have available to them a huge range of wine and beer across all price ranges and enjoy knowledgeable, friendly service. Any visitors to our store are recommended wine or beer that specifically suits their requirements by staff who are passionate about wine and beer.

Our Staff

The Purvis Wine Cellars full time staff have a long and experienced background in wine, retail, and hospitality.

Craig Purvis' family has been in retail for generations, with the family having stores in Gippsland and Melbourne going back to the late 1880's, see 'About Purvis'. A much Maligned Melbourne FC supporter Craig has built Purvis Wine Cellars into one of the leading independent wine retailers in Melbourne. Having an affection for cool climate Shiraz and NZ Sauvignon Blanc, Craig sometimes just enjoys a good full, rich, dark beer.

Adam Thomas - Store Manager, Richmond FC supporter and retired Rugby Union lock forward. A veteran of the wine industry he has been at the coal face of wine retail for a number of years. Adam's passion for wine stemmed from when his family owned Yering station before it was sold to the current owners the Rathdowne family in the mid 1990's. He has extensive wine knowledge and experience and one of the best palates this side of the black stump. A big man with a big voice and an appetite for full-bodied Chardonnay and Shiraz.

Paul Macdonald, a one-eyed Magpies fan, has over 30 years experience in the Wine and Hospitality industry from managing bars in the '70's to the trench warfare of wine wholesale supplying the retail and restaurant trade to liquor store management. Paul seen the industry go through many changes over the years and is always good for a tall story or two from 'the good ol' days'. Paul enjoys a Coonawarra Cabernet, McLaren Vale Shiraz, a full bodied Chardonnay from anywhere and is especially fond of European Lagers.

Simon Lewis first joined Purvis Wine Cellars in 2003 and is on his second tour of duty.Originally from New Zealand he has over 15 years experience in Hospitality working in restaurants, bars and Hotels. Always having a passion for wine he cut his teeth at Purvis and now considers himself on a lifelong journey of wine discovery. Simon is responsible now for Marketing the Purvis brand and heading the exclusive Purvis Platinum Club. He fully subscribes to the theory that Rugby Union is 'the game they play in heaven' and also passionately follows Essendon FC. Simon loves Pinot Noir from the Mornington Peninsula and Central Otago NZ, cool climate Chardonnay, and Rhone-style red blends. A decent Pale Ale is beer style of choice.
